GETTING THE TRAIN from Dublin to Westport is an experience unlike any other. Really, it is.
Where else would wild Irish scenery, discomfort, and fast food come together so beautifully? Nowhere.
Getting to the platform can be cut-throat
And the students! Dear god, the students
*Home Alone music plays*
Manulla Junction is unspeakably grim
HA.
No really, it’s so grim
This is true. It has its own micro-climate.
There is always panic when the train is due to split in Athlone
One for Galway, one for Westport. BUT WHICH ONE ARE YOU ON?
There are NEVER ENOUGH CARRIAGES
Which can lead to some awkward moments
But there is always enough gossip
And you never know when you might spot a celebrity
(Note: The above tweet is mine and I can confirm it was the best day of my life.)
You do get a gorgeous view of the countryside on a good day…
…Unless you don’t
And an unmistakable aroma will always follow you through the carriages
If you’re morally against eating smelly food on public transport, you’ll have to get over it. Supermacs and the Westport train are inextricably linked. SHMACS FOREVER.
